Actually, the deformation under a concentrated load P at the end will give deformation equals to PL/AE. The deformation due to self-weight is is give by (YL^2)/2E where Y is the unit weight but on solving this by integration we will get the answer PL/2AE.
So, option B is correct.
So, option B is correct.

The deformation of a bar under its own weight = Wl^2 / 2E.
whereas Deformation under direct load = Wl^2 / E.
therefore The deformation of a bar under its own weight is ___1/2___ the deformation if the same body is subjected to a direct load equal to the weight of the body.

The answer is half because.
Deformation due to direct load =Wl/AE.
And deformation due to self wt. Is WL/2AE.
Deformation due to direct load =Wl/AE.
And deformation due to self wt. Is WL/2AE.

How came Wl2/E.
But in case of direct load Pl/AE.
So, in this case, it should become Wl/AE.
