In up milling, chip thickness starts from zero and increases to the maximum.
In down milling, chip thickness starts from maximum to zero.
In down milling, chip thickness starts from maximum to zero.

Because in up milling process, work piece is fed in opposite direction to the cutting edge of the cutter, so it removes maximum amount of material at the end.
