Plunge grinding is a type of center-less grinding whereby the work piece is placed between the wheels on a work blade and the diamond grinding wheel is plunged into the work piece.

Throughout the plunge grinding operation, the diamond grinding wheel is in continuous contact with a single point on the work piece, whereas with OD grinding, the diamond grinding wheel traverses the work piece.
