Backgear is used in lathe increase the no of spindle speed and reduce rpm.

Back gear is used for providing motion to the lead screw that's why power is distributed and speed is reduced.

One type of reverted gear train, it reduces spindle speed. It will use the perform knurling, facing, threading operations.
