Dear @Sanjith if you increase the rake angle the area of the tool will be reduced so the strength also reduces, in case of carbide tools we use negative rake angles because carbide tools are weak in tension. And coming to our answer if we use other than zero rake angle for thread cutting the rake face of the tool goes on to the thread and it causes the damage to the thread.

A single point thread cutting tool should have zero rake angle because what actually happens with the positive rake angle is that the chips formed under the rake face may flow side ward and try to weaken the thread formed.
Hence it is advisable to use zero rake angle for thread cutting and also for brass work pieces.

Well i've read all the answers present here, none provide a reason which is worth satisfaction actually.
Thread cutting tool is a type of form (shape) tool, and recommendations for a zero rake angle is that is should be used where the shape of the tool is the shape of workpiece!

It is B.
A threading tool should IDEALLY have positive rake because it will give good chip flow control. Better chip flow results in better quality threads with less burrs and scratches.

A positive or negative rake angles direct the flow of chips to the already made thread. If hot chips rubs against the threads, it will be damaged. So zero take angle is preferred.

A single point thread cutting tool should ideally have positive rake angle. Because of positive rake give more safety to thread with respect to zero or negative rake angle.

If we use positive rake angle then the chip flowing sideward direction will induce a thrust force on threads and produce crack and thread become weak.

Using Zero Rake angle only we can produce threads. Why because if we use other then zero rake angle it will damage threads produced.
