In zero film bearings thin layer of lubricant is available (like oil polished) this is sufficient to reduce the friction between bearing and shaft. As the film layer very thin hence it known as zero film.

Zero films means there is no lubrication between journal and bearing.
While there a lubrication present in journal and bearing it is called thick film lubrication.

Zero film means direct contact that means whether it is sliding contact or surface contact or may be the rolling contact between shaft and bearing.

Lubricant is neccessory in bearings, but contact between shaft and bearing by lubricant for power transmission is not under zero film.

Zero Film Bearings: These type of bearings as their name suggests have no lubricant present between the contact layers.

Zero film - means a very negligible distance.
Between bearing and shaft, that's why lubrication is important.

Zero film bearing mean there is no any film or layers of oil between these two matching surface.

There is a gap of nano distance between the bearing and the surface. Lubrication is necessary.
