Cotter is a flat wedge shaped part which is used to connect two rods which transmit the force/motion but without rotation. Cotter is fitted in the tapered slot and remains in its position by wedge action. Value of taper on cotter is 1 in 48 to 1 in 24.

Option D is wrong. Option C is right because taper on cotter varies from 1 in 32 to 1 in 24.
