Construction began in 1961 with the USA. It has four Boiling water reactors (BWR) with a capacity 1400 MW. Nuclear fuel for TAPS has subsequently been delivered from France, China, and Russia.
Indian Gov. Has planning to built the world's largest Nuclear Power Plant, Jaitapur in Ratnagiri District of Maharashtra having a Net Generating Capacity 9900 MW.
