Both temperature and pressure combine to accelerate the flame front in compressing the unburned charge to detonation zone which is kept away from spark plug zone. Ultimately the temperature of detonation zone is reached higher that causes combustion of fuel at greater pressure.

Due to increase in temperature and pressure detonation and knocking generate and difference between them is, sound generate in knocking and vibration generate in detonation.

If the compression ratio is increased then the fuel will pre-ignite and leads to detonation.

Knocking is a slow or less sound/vibration and detonation is loud or high sound/vibration.
