Petrol engine requires homogeneous mixture for combustion and Diesel engine requires heterogeneous mixture for combustion.

So running cost of Diesel engine is more than Petrol engine.

Because the petrol consumption per brake power is 0.25kg.
And diesel consumption per brake power is 0.2 kg.

That's why the running cost is more for petrol.

The diesel engine would more efficient for the same temp and pressure and cost less.
