Which one of the following engines will have heavier flywheel than the remaining ones?
30 kW four-stroke petrol engine running at 1500 r.p.m.
30 kW two-stroke petrol engine running at 1500 r.p.m.
30 kW two-stroke diesel engine running at 750 r.p.m.
30 kW four-stroke diesel engine running at 750 r.p.m.

Right answer should be option D because of Torque will be more at low speed and there will be a power stock in two round of crank shaft in diesel engine while there will be a power stock in one round of crank shaft in petrol engine.

D is the correct answer as four-stroke diesel engine size is massive compared to 2 strokes. Also, remember more the mass more will be inertia. So, to balance the inertia, we need bigger mass flywheel.

A is correct because in four-stroke engine for every power stroke 2 revolution of the crank which creates more vibration these vibration and fluctuations are absorbed by the bigger flywheel.

Why not option D ?

As increasing speed time between two successive spark production is less.

So for less speed high flywheel is required.

Option D is the right answer because 4 stroke requires heavy flywheel than 2 strokes more than the no of rpm lighter flywheel it requires.

The flywheel in a four stroke petrol engine is heavier than in a two stroke petrol engine and there is no flywheel in a diesel engine.

Right answer should be D.

As speed decreases, the torque produced increases.

Thus, larger flywheel requires.
