If the metacentric height is high then it will have high stability but have low comfortness.

Time period inversely proportional to GM as;

T=2π √(K^2/(GM*g)).
Where K= radius of gyration.
Gm=metacentric height.
Hence More GM, less time period and more stability.

GM More time period less comfort level less stability more.

The metacentric height (GM) is a measurement of the initial static stability of a floating body. It is calculated as the distance between the centre of gravity of a ship and its metacentre. A larger metacentric height implies greater initial stability against overturning. The metacentric height also influences the natural period of rolling of a hull, with very large metacentric heights being associated with shorter periods of roll which are uncomfortable for passengers. Hence, a sufficiently, but not excessively, high metacentric height is considered ideal for passenger ships.

Stability of ship is depends on the metacentric height higher the ht higher will be the stability. In case of passenger ship if stability is more means m height is more which leads to more oscillation which leads to uncomfortable to the passengers therefore designing of m hieght depends on type of the ship.

Time period of oscillations is inversely proportional to meta centric height. Thus more the GM less will be time period, and body regains its position in less time. So more stable.
