Specific gravity is the ratio of
Density of fluid / density of standard fluid.
Where, standard fluid is water.
Density of water is 1000 kg/m3.

Specific gravity is the ratio of the density of a substance to the density (mass of the same unit volume) of a reference substance. Both numerator and denominator have same unit so unit becomes cancel out.
