The definition of specific gravity is the ratio of the density of a liquid to the density of the standard liquid(water).
Now, specific weight means the weight per unit volume ..i.e d*g.
Now the ratio of d*g of liquid to the d*g of water. We will get d of liquid / d of water i.e. specific gravity or relative density.
d - Density.
g - Gravitational acceleration.
