We have total head is equal to Hg and loss of head due to friction is Hf. So the net head is equal to the difference b/w Hg - Hf.

h is known as gross head.
And hf is known as head produced due to friction force = 4flv*2/2gh.
And hf is known as head produced due to friction force = 4flv*2/2gh.
