Answer is A as "A heat pump is a machine or device that moves heat from one location (the 'source') at a lower temperature to another location (the 'sink' or 'heat sink') at a higher temperature using mechanical work".
What Anand has said is not right no heat is converted to mechanical work, mechanical work is done to remove heat from lower temperature area and transfer it to higher temperature area.
Heat pump acts like removing heat from earth and delivering that heat to the sun by using mechanical work.

The source which gives an infinite amount of heat.
And sink which can receive an infinite amount of heat.
The correct answer is C
Heat pump and refrigerator always required work. And heat pump surrounding is source and room which we need to keep warm is sink.
So, the correct answer is "C"

Because heat engine absorbs temp from higher source and converts to work and sends the remaining energy to cold sink, where as its totally reverse in case of heat pump work is done to supply the heat from a cold source to heat source.

Simple in heat engine higher to lower and get work.
Pump and in ref Both we have to give work but in a pump, we req higher temp so it's from lower to high and reverse in ref.

B is the correct answer. The Heat pump is a device which extracts the heat from low temp. Sink and delivers, it to high temp. Source when the input is supplied.

Heat pump takes heat from body at lower temperature delivers to body at high temperature while work is being done on the system. It is refrigeration system.

Reverse of Air Condition is Heat Pump. i.e. taking heat from high temperature reservoir to low temperature reservoir.

B is the correct answer as heat is extracted from the lower temperature body and to do this a we have to supply work.

In heat pump the heat absorb from low-temperature body and reject it to high-temperature body when work is done.
