By using parallel axis theorem.
MOI about base = MOI about centroid + (Area*x^2).
= (a^4/12) + (a^2*(a/2)^2).
= a^4/3.
MOI about base = MOI about centroid + (Area*x^2).
= (a^4/12) + (a^2*(a/2)^2).
= a^4/3.

The Answer might be right because the square has 4 sides i.e. 4a considering its base has one side so it will be a^4/3.
