Upward acting projectile is the one when you throw the ball from ground and the downward acting projectile is when you throw the after going to certain height. Both make trajectories.
Now, distance traveled in a parallel (i.e, when downward projectile) will be more than the distance traveled when thrown from the ground (i.e, upward projectile) while in flight.

In upward rmax is u^2/g(1+sinx) where denominator is large but,
In downward it is u^2/g(1+sinx).
In downward it is u^2/g(1+sinx).

In vertical direction velocity component is v sin* but in horizontal direction velocity component is vcos*. Hence cos*<sin* if we increase the angle upto 90 degree.

In upper direction gravity opposite to velocity & in downward in the direction & it helps & that's why more than.
