If any ladder is inclined against roughwall then friction act in both upward of vertical wall as well as towards it.

Friction will be always at slipping point of ladder means a horizontal surface. At wall there will be reaction Force Not Friction so.

Why B is correct. The upper end is smooth so no friction. The given answer is right.
