High air-fuel ratio means access amount of air. Has 3 important roles.
-> Cooling the outer surface of the combustion chamber.
-> reduce the exhaust temperature.
-> Control the flam by guiding the way.

Excess air have 3 roles :

1- Cooling the outer surface of combustion chamber
2- Control the flame by guiding it away from walls
3- Mixed with combustion products to reduce its temp. To acceptable level to save the blades of turbine.
