Volumetric efficiency is the ratio of the volume of free air delivery per stroke to the swept volume of the piston.

It is ratio of effective swept volume to the swept volume.

It is the ratio of an actual amount of air sucked to the total volume of a reciprocating cylinder.

Voletric efficiency=Vas/Vs, Vas-actual suction of air between top dead center to bottom dead center.
Vs-Vas+clearance volume. Clearance volume = 0.1 to 0.15.
Vs-Vas+clearance volume. Clearance volume = 0.1 to 0.15.

Volumetric efficiency = (Swept volume/(clearance volume+swept volume)), swept volume is volume swept by piston in cylinder.
Clarence volume is about only 10-15% of total volume. So volumetric efficiency of engine could be more than 70%.
