It should be clearance ratio. With decreases in clearance ratio, volumetric efficiency increases for compression ratio there should be no effect.

Compression ratio is the ratio of max to min volume in a cylinder. Min vol means clearance volume. So compression ratio will dec if clearance vol decreases, With the decrease of clearance vol, more air could be sucked in hence vol efficiency increases.

If compression ratio decreases that means clearance volume has increased and if clearance volume increase volumetric efficiency should decrease.
