As clearance volume < swept volume there is increase in power requirement as area decreases on pv diagram the size of compressor increase and it causes loss of stroke due to which the volumetric efficiency of compressor drops Large bumping clearance retards the formation of vacuum on the suction stroke and thus less air is drawn inside for compression and accordingly the weight of the air delivered is reduced proportional to the clearance volume and hence bumping clearance is about 0.5% to 1% of the bore of the cylinder.

But clearance decreases the area under pv diagram so how come if does not affect wd?

Clearance hasn't effect on WD. It effects on the volume flow rate.
