It is not detonation as the process happen after the heat waves stimulated from spark plug start spreading in the cylinder, in that case, if end charge ignites beforehand it will be termed as detonation. But ignition before spark (mean anytime before) can only be caused by carbon residues hence called preignition.

I think it's detonation.

What is knocking? Please explain it.

Detonation occurs when the air fuel mixture reaches an excessive high temperature and it causes an uneven force on the piston which is like a hammer blow. Preignition occurs when the carbon deposits on the spark plug or inside the combustion chamber become red hot and cause ignition of the charge before sparking by spark plug.

What is the pre-ignition? Please explain me.

Question said A-F ignition taking place before spark so it is only happen when inside cylinder temperature is too high so it's called detonation.

@Vinoth.

Knocking means?

Detonation is one type of knocking and pre-ignition is the correct answer.

Air fuel mixture ignites before the time of spark takes place is obtained by the red hot carbon spots which are present in the combustion chamber. Rumble may be defined as abnormal engine combustion initiated by multiple deposit sources.
