I would consider this explanation reasonable since its verbal reasoning question, the present answer is more suitable for logical reasoning because else they could simply write like 2, 3, 6, 8.

Maybe (d) is also right, as it is the only word which starts with a vowel.

2, 3 and 8 are part of the fibonacci series (1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13 etc).
