Because it is given in the paragraph saying through out the ages which means all times. So it is contributing civilastion at all times. Where as it helps in industrial revolution onli for the past few decades.

The entire passage is discussing the businessman. Most of his life contributed for civilisation and last few years he spent for Industrial Revolution.
So, it is essential to mention civilisation. Even if you mention about Industrial Revolution, the contribution to the civilisation must be included.
