  • (B) If only assumption II is implicit
  • (C) If either I or II is implicit
  • (D) If neither I nor II is implicit

29.

Statement: 'Double your money in five months.' - An advertisement.

Assumptions:

  1. The assurance is not genuine.
  2. People want their money to grow.

Only assumption I is implicit
Only assumption II is implicit
Either I or II is implicit
Neither I nor II is implicit
Both I and II are implicit
Answer: Option
Explanation:
The truth or falsity of the promise made in the statement cannot be judged. So, I is not implicit. Since the concerned firm advertises with the assurance that money can be doubled quickly by investing with it, so II is implicit.

'Double your money in five months. ' - this advertisement was posted because it has an implicit assumption that people want to grow their money, else there would have been no such advertisement in the first place. Therefore assumption-2 is implicit in the statement and the correct answer is B.

Option 1 is not implicit. Coming to the option 2 the statement doesn't express the mindset of the people whether they want to grow their money or not. So 2 is also not implicit.

The answer should be D. You can't judge that all people want their money to grow by considering an advertisement. The advertisement is not a replica of people's choices.

Advertisement may or may not be genuine and also every human may differ some may want no money so as per me both assumptions are wrong.

Can advertisement be taken as an assurance? advertisements are just propagation. It doesn't need to be genuine.

It should be (D). As the statement doesn't imply that people are interested in this advertisement.

Statement 2 doesn't express mindset of people. I think option D is the answer.
