Directions to Solve

In each question below is given a statement followed by two assumptions numbered I and II. You have to consider the statement and the following assumptions and decide which of the assumptions is implicit in the statement.

Give answer

  • (A) If only assumption I is implicit
  • (B) If only assumption II is implicit
  • (C) If either I or II is implicit
  • (D) If neither I nor II is implicit
  • (E) If both I and II are implicit.

35.

Statement: The coffee powder of company X is quite better in taste than the much advertised coffee of company Y.

Assumptions:

  1. If your product is not good, your spend more on advertisement.
  2. Some people are tempted to buy a product by the advertisement.

Only assumption I is implicit
Only assumption II is implicit
Either I or II is implicit
Neither I nor II is implicit
Both I and II are implicit
Answer: Option
Explanation:
Since the statement holds the product of company X more superior in quality than that of Y which spends more on advertisement, so I is not implicit. According to the statement, the product of company Y is more known because of more advertisement. So, II is implicit.

@All.'

My point is that, Product y is advertising it doesn't mean that. It is a bad product and also it may be new to the market. In both the assumption they generally saying product. But in a statement says about the particular product. So, I think D must be the answer.

Company X product tastes better than Company Y, which had better advertisements but there is no relation stating that just because Company Y had more advertising it must have a bad product, they were compared on two individual independent quantities hence assumption I is not implicit Comparison.

I think option D is correct none is implicit.

I think option D is correct as statement 1 is general and statement 2 is also not implicit because there is no evidence of relationship between sales and advertising.

The Statement I is not an implicit assumption because the statement suggests that the person has actually tried the coffee before making the remarks. Therefore, the statement I is an inference, not an assumption.

Also, I don't think Statement II is a valid assumption because, as pointed by @Joel, no relation between advertising and sales is given.

The statements just describe the two companies one with good quality product and other with good advertising.
Statement 1 can be implimented only because nowhere it is mentioned about people's behaviour.

1st is implicit as it is mentioned clearly in the statement that's why advertisers more than x.

There is no info about people's choice. So, II is is not implicit.

1st is implicit as in this context we are talking about coffee powder only. 2nd is not implicit as we are not told anything about the behavior of the people.

The problem I have is that there is no connection between Coffee Y being more advertised and people buying that product. People do tend to buy things that they see more often in advertisements, but that fact is not implicit based on the two statements. If they had said that "more people recognize coffee Y" then that would be implicit, but the decision to buy or not buy a product is not related to the amount of advertising in this statement.

1. How can assumption II be implicit as nothing is mentioned about sale of Coffee X or Coffee Y?

2. Statement 'than the much advertised coffee Y' clearly implies assumption I implicit.
