Logical Reasoning - Statement and Assumption - Discussion
Discussion Forum : Statement and Assumption - Section 6 (Q.No. 4)
Directions to Solve
In each question below is given a statement followed by three assumptions numbered I, II and III. You have to consider the statement and the following assumptions, decide which of the assumptions is implicit in the statement and choose your answer accordingly.
4.
Statement: Pramod decided to get the railway reservation in May, for the journey he wants to make in July, to Madras.
Assumptions:
- The railways issues reservations two months in advance.
- There are more than one trains to Madras.
- There will be vacancy in the desired class.
Answer: Option
Explanation:
Clearly, since Pramod decides to get the reservation in May for the journey in July, so I is implicit. The number of trains to Madras or the position of vacancies in different classes cannot be deduced from the given statement. So, neither II nor III is implicit.

@Ssejy.
I think we should not consider those, what matters is what Pramod thinks or Author thinks.
If Pramod knows there are no seats available he won't make a train as an option. Here it clearly says "decided by Pramod".
So Pramod assumes sets are available. III is also implicit. It supports the Statement.

The reservations are not necessarily accepted 2 months in advance as the dates were not specified. Pramod may have been making his reservations only 5 or 6 weeks ahead of his journey. I stand by my original answer that E is correct!

Option C seems appropriate.
Since he wishes to have advance reservation one of the underlying assumption was to get reservation so there has to be the basis that seats might be empty.

The first statement is not implicit.
If some railway system reserves tickets 3 months in advance.
Then also pramod can book ticket 2 months in advance before he actually travels.

I agree with @Nikhil. Option C seems more valid and correct. He is booking the ticket under the assumption that seat is empty.

Option 1 is not implicit. Nowhere it is given that reservation windows start from xyz time.

The option should be none of this because only assumption 3 agrees.

None of these because Pramod "decided" not that he had to.
