Each question given below consists of a statement, followed by two arguments numbered I and II. You have to decide which of the arguments is a 'strong' argument and which is a 'weak' argument.

  • (A) If only argument I is strong
  • (B) If only argument II is strong
  • (C) If either I or II is strong
  • (D) If neither I nor II is strong and
  • (E) If both I and II are strong.

Statement: Should we scrap the system of formal education beyond graduation?

Arguments:

  1. Yes. It will mean taking employment at an early date.
  2. No. It will mean lack of depth of knowledge.
Only argument I is strong

Both I and II are strong
Answer: Option
Explanation:
Clearly, argument I is vague because at present too, many fields are open to all after graduation. However, eliminating the post-graduate courses would abolish higher and specialized studies which lead to understanding things better and deeply. So, argument II is valid.

If someone wants to work at early age then its good so first one also valid.

If someone works at an early age it doesn't mean that he is fully familiar to his work due to in completion of his knowledge, so first does not hold true.

The purpose of the study is to ensure students have in-depth knowledge to cope with work demands. However, there are exceptional examples, like Bill Gates, he does not finish his university degree, but he is able to use his talent to create Microsoft company. But how many people in the world can become another Bill Gates, so the educational system still plays an important role in students' future career development.

The depth of knowledge doesn't have to necessarily source from a 'degree'. Enhancing knowledge can happen at any age and can be done while staying employed as well. I believe both are incorrect.

A student doesn't necessarily need any postgraduate course to have in the depth knowledge. The answer should be neither I nor II.
