Logical Reasoning - Number Series - Discussion
Discussion Forum : Number Series - Type 4 (Q.No. 12)
Directions to Solve
Find the number that fits somewhere into the middle of the series. Some of the items involve both numbers and letters
12.
Look at this series: 4, 7, 25, 10, __, 20, 16, 19, ... What number should fill the blank?
Answer: Option
Explanation:
Two series alternate here, with every third number following a different pattern. In the main series, 3 is added to each number to arrive at the next. In the alternating series, 5 is subtracted from each number to arrive at the next.

Let us spilit the series innto two (a,b)... (a1,a2,b1)(a3,a4,b2) (a5,a6,b3) and so on..... if we see A series are increasing gradually with number 3like(4,7,10,...16,19) and b is the second set of series increase with 5(20,25) .....
So here we have to find out the missing number of a4(10+3=13)......
Hope you guys understood....

4, 7, 25 are the main series n next alternative number is 10 i.e. came by adding 4+3 is 7 and 7+3 is 10 and after 10+3 is 13 after than 25 is taken as last no of main series and we have to less 5 from every last no of main series. Then 25-5 is 20 finally the series is 3, 7, 25, 10, 13, 20, 16, 19, 15.

Q = 4, 7, 25, 10, ?, 20, 16, 19.
Solution:
Firstly for the first portion i.e.
=> 4, 7, 10, ?, 16, 19.
=> The pattern is 1+3=4, 4+3=7, 7+3=10, 10+3=13, 13+3=16, 16+3=19.
While 25 and 20 are following the different pattern i.e. every 3rd number is subtracted by 5 and so on.

We obtain second number to add first no+3 =second number then we finding the different number (third no that's25)now forth number +3=Fifth no(i.e 13) then we finding the 20i.e 3rd no-5=20 So we can find the all series every no .it's combination of two series .

The series is taken as 3 numbers as one group i.e. like.
(4, 7, 25) and
(10, _, 20) , .
Observing the first set 4 is added by three to get 7 like that we should add 3 to the 10 to get the answer in the second set.

Hai @Wally.
Here: 4, 7, 25, 10, __, 20, 16, 19, ... ( TWO set of series).
Then,
Split series: (4, 7, 10, _, 16, 19, ........) +3 series.
(25, 20, 15,........) -5 series.
So the answer is 10+3 =13.
Here: 4, 7, 25, 10, __, 20, 16, 19, ... ( TWO set of series).
Then,
Split series: (4, 7, 10, _, 16, 19, ........) +3 series.
(25, 20, 15,........) -5 series.
So the answer is 10+3 =13.

Here there are two series of which first series consists of 4,7,10,...,16,19.here if we observe every number is incrementing with three. so the answer is 13(10+3) and the second series is 25 and 20.

Here in the 1st set we see that (4, 7, 25) and in the second set we see that (10, -, 20).
In the first we see that 4 + 3 is 7 and 25 - 5 we get 20. So 10 should be added with 3 to get answer 13.

Example
(4,7,25) 1st set
(10,_,20) 2nd set
in this see 1st set
4 is added with 3 get 7
25 is subtract with 5 get 20, 20 is 2nd set of 1ast no.
like that 10 is add with 3 get final answer 3
(4,7,25) 1st set
(10,_,20) 2nd set
in this see 1st set
4 is added with 3 get 7
25 is subtract with 5 get 20, 20 is 2nd set of 1ast no.
like that 10 is add with 3 get final answer 3

4 7 25 10 ____ 20 16 19.
4 + 3 = 7.
7 + 3 = 10.
10 + 3 = 13.
13 + 3 = 16.
16 + 3 = 19.
The number is added 3. Every third number is different pattern so the correct answer is 13.
