Logical Reasoning - Number Series - Discussion
Discussion Forum : Number Series - Type 1 (Q.No. 9)
Directions to Solve
In each series, look for the degree and direction of change between the numbers. In other words, do the numbers increase or decrease, and by how much
9.
Look at this series: 8, 22, 8, 28, 8, ... What number should come next?
Answer: Option
Explanation:
This is a simple addition series with a random number, 8, interpolated as every other number. In the series, 6 is added to each number except 8, to arrive at the next number.

8 is common so we should alternative numbers that is 22 28.
Should subtract 28-22 = 6,
that should be added to 22 + 6 = 28,
28+6 = 34.
Should subtract 28-22 = 6,
that should be added to 22 + 6 = 28,
28+6 = 34.

According to me,
22 + 8 = 30.
30 - 2 = 28.
28 + 8 = 36.
36 - 2 = 34.
22 + 8 = 30.
30 - 2 = 28.
28 + 8 = 36.
36 - 2 = 34.

6 and 8 are common here (28 - 22 = 6). Find the difference between the first two numbers i.e. 22 - 8 = 14. The sum of the difference i.e 14 + the sum of the two common numbers i.e 6 + 8 gives 28, that is it.
28 - 8 = 20; 6 + 8 + 20 = 34,
34 - 8 = 26; 6 + 8 + 26 = 40,
40 - 8 = 32; 6 + 8 + 32 = 46.
28 - 8 = 20; 6 + 8 + 20 = 34,
34 - 8 = 26; 6 + 8 + 26 = 40,
40 - 8 = 32; 6 + 8 + 32 = 46.

Rule : Add 6 to the alternate numbers except the 8 because it is a constant random number.

To tricky and confusing, I go wit Vinod, since 8 is common forget about it and leave its position the n mind about 22 and 28.
