The explanation in absolutely correct , but there is an alternate way which I discovered. If you see alternate nos. in this series ( after seeing the first, see the third one and similarly see the second and then the fourth one )you notice that their difference is 7 . So the answer becomes E) 10 8 in the series.

I guess there must be a link or identity or something like that to LINK between the given answer and my discovery. ( The given answer says : This is an alternating subtraction series, which subtracts 5, then 2, then 5, and so on. )

31 - 24 = 7.
24 - 17 = 7.
17 - 10 = 7.

So 1st no is (10).

36 - 29 = 7.
29 - 22 = 7.
22 - 15 = 7.
15 - 8 = 7.

So 2nd no is (8).

36-5 = 31
31-2 = 29
29-5 = 24
24-2 = 22
22-5 = 17
17-2 = 15

15-5 = 10
10-2 = 8
