As per my understanding, Every third position is 4 and every number is added with 1 and 2 respectively.

Here you have given the number such as 2 3 4 5 6 4 8. For this series you have taken the numbers 2-6 is by adding 1 and the remaining numbers 4 and 8 cannot be possible for adding the digit 1 and hence the answer cannot be able to identify the 8 9.
