Logical Reasoning - Letter and Symbol Series - Discussion

Discussion Forum : Letter and Symbol Series - Type 2 (Q.No. 2)
Directions to Solve
Look carefully at the sequence of symbols to find the pattern. Select correct pattern.

2.
1
2
3
4
Answer: Option
Explanation:
Notice that in each segment, the figures are all the same shape, but the one in the middle is larger than the two on either side. Also, notice that one of the figures is shaded and that this shading alternates first right and then left. To continue this pattern in the third segment, you will look for a square. Choice b is correct because this choice will put the large square between the two smaller squares, with the shading on the right.

Hi, I'm confused.

The pattern never mentions that the middle one can't be coloured and in the first two patterns, the coloured figures skip only one place. Then anyone attempting this answer can then feel if the coloured pattern is skipping only one place then the middle largest pattern should be coloured in the answer.

Am I right? Please clarify me.

We can't take middle one as shaded one.

Because see the options given.

If we that middle one shaded that will not matches to that figure.

I mean that if we take middle one as shaded as given in option 4.

That won't match. Because they is already first segment has given in question itself. It should be option B.

Why we can't take middle one as shaded one?

Observe the series,

Step 1 all round shapes middle is differ from 1 and 3.

Step 2 all triangulars middle is differ from 1 and 3.

Step 3 squares, 1 and 3 are differ from middle when compared by size.

Another thing is, in 1st series 3rd one i.e., right end is shaded, in the 2nd series 1st one, i.e., left end is shaded. As followed by the same what is next 3rd right is the answer.
