Discussion Forum : Course of Action - Section 1 (Q.No. 15)
Directions to Solve

In each question below is given a statement followed by two courses of action numbered I and II. You have to assume everything in the statement to be true and on the basis of the information given in the statement, decide which of the suggested courses of action logically follow(s) for pursuing.

Give answer

  • (A) If only I follows
  • (B) If only II follows
  • (C) If either I or II follows
  • (D) If neither I nor II follows
  • (E) If both I and II follow.

15.

Statement: A recent study shows that children below five die in the cities of the developing countries mainly from diarrhoea and parasitic intestinal worms.

Courses of Action:

  1. Governments of the developing countries should take adequate measures to improve the hygienic conditions in the cities.
  2. Children below five years in the cities of the developing countries need to be kept under periodic medical check-up.

Only I follows
Only II follows
Either I or II follows
Neither I nor II follows
Both I and II follow
Answer: Option
Explanation:
Clearly, the two diseases mentioned are caused by unhygienic conditions. So, improving the hygienic conditions is a step towards their eradication. Also, periodic medical check-up will help timely detection of the disease and hence a proper treatment. So, both I and II follow.

Statement 2 does not follow as it is not possible for state to check every child below 5 years.

The Second condition is not correct. It says student below 5 that does not mean every student. You cannot just go check every 5 or less year old child.

2 course of action may not be feasible for a country of size of India.
