Bowls were made for soup and universally used as such. Plus food would be for plates.

I don't think that answer is too good, because bowls can be used for rice and other foods.

Coffee is in cup so simply soup is in bowl.

Answer can also be food because often we keep food in bowl and soup is also a kind of food.
