With the help of both we can achieve the result. But the only thing which makes the difference is Time taken.
Hard work consumes more time where as smart consumers less.
We should achieve the result in a smart way by working hard.
In my opinion, smart work may fail Sometime but not hard work. That why I choose to do work hard and but I apply my smartness to remove hurdles in the path of achieving results.

Hard work means handling things patiently and it usually takes place with certain set defined rules and regulations while smart work means handling things tactfully and instantaneously. Hard work is usually practised when a person has ample time and smart work is usually practised when the work needs to be done in less amount of time.

In my opinion, hardwork gives less output (work) in more time but smartwork is something that gives more output (output) in less time.

In my opinion, "Hard Work" means more efforts and more times, but less work and, "Smart Work" is fewer efforts and fewer times, but more works.
For example - If we use stairs to go to 10th floor of a building, it takes more efforts and more times, the ultimate result comes fewer, it's called " Hard Work" and if we use a lift to go to same distance of that building, it takes fewer efforts and fewer times, but the ultimate result comes more, it's called " Smart Work".
