The result for both the work is the same but the working in both cases is different. As;
HARD WORK- Working hard self to give the result in a given time.
SMART WORK- Get the work being getting done by someone else or by much less effort by first going through all the possible ways.

According to me, both hard work and smart work to give the best result.
But without hard work, not possible smart work, because;
