What is the difference between hard work and smart work?

Hard work means know pain but no gains.

Smart work means no pain but know gains.

Hardwork is when you put in a lot of effort to achieve some goal.

Smart work is when you achieve the same goal with less effort making use of some strategic planning with a more pragmatic approach.

Hard work refers to need of hand and smartwork refers to need of brain without any movement of body parts to work.

Hard work is done physically as well as mentally, where as in smart work is done mentally and logically.

I believe that hardwork is done by physically and tends to handling the situation carefully.

Smart work can be done by mentally.

Hardwork means lots of efforts with too much time to achieve goal and smartwork means less efforts with minmum time.

Hard work shows your focus and intensity while Smartwork also shows your ability and intelligence.

Hard work means : doing work with more time.

Smart work means: doing work with less time and result is same.

Whats coming to my mind is some students studies too much, some of them get good marks and some not. Some students get decent marks even though they study less. If one works hard, studies a lot, or puts too much energy on doing any work, I call it as hard work. If one achieves the same by putting less energy, I call it smart work. If even after hard work, one won't be able to achieve the things, then he should change his method of doing it, and that's smartness.

For example, when we were small, some friends used to by heart the things, but could not write well in exams, It's hard work. Understanding the concepts and writing in the exam is smart work.
