In my opinion, hard work means a great deal of effort in a maximum period of time but smart work is when that same work is done instant with proper planning.

Hardwork involves longtime but the output level may be best or may not be best. Smartwork involves less time and best output.

In smart work we find the different way to excute the job in minimum time effectively. In hardwork we do the job in the traditional or given way effectively which may take more time.
