Women Empowerment - A Cause for Increasing Divorce Rate in India

According to me, women empowerment is necessary for the benefit of the society in large. For example: if a man is educated and he is capable of doing certain things, why not women? if a women is educated, she can educate the whole family and the surroundings near by. Women are the backbones of the society. And if we say it is a cause for increasing divorce rate then we are demoralizing our own society. Earlier people were not that much educated and they were unaware of their human rights, now people are developing their minds, they have options in their lives, for eg: if you purchased anything and after that you realized oops it not the right thing, what I needed then you can exchange as per your requirement and same is the case with divorce. If the spouse are not satisfied then there is no point of living together.

So, women empowerment is not a cause for increasing divorce rate in India.

I feel, that although WM is not directly responsible for the in increase the divorce rates, it has indirectly exposed the suppression of women in the past.

In the last two centuries, the woman was in dark of her rights, hence, she was taken advantage of by the husband/ in-laws. With WM, she has become aware of her rights and refuses to be exploited.

This refusal results in a divorce, and a collection of these such incidents reflects in an increased divorce rate. That is point one.

Point two. The increasing laws in the favour of women, in the last 30 or so years, has resulted in a pack of unaware women who are basically in the game of misusing these laws eg - divorce law, dowry law - to gain access to the land/ money of the husband/ in laws. This further results in the increase of the divorce rate chart.

So, although WM is not responsible for increased divorce rates directly, it has indirectly exposed the harsh reality of the yesteryears & is also indicative of the issues an unaware empowerment mind can create.

Empowerment means giving power and when a woman is empowered she comes to know about her legal powers which can be used to make her life better. She gets educated and an educated woman can make her child educated. Empowerment provides self-dependence but it has nothing to do with divorce. Everyone needs love and care and love is one of the building blocks of marriage. A working married couple can manage very well if there is a mutual understanding among themselves but the absence of trust love and understanding creates problems. Divorce can be taken anywhere, whether between a rich or the poor. It shows lack of love between the couple and when there is no love a normal couple can't live together under a single roof. So empowerment strengthens not only a woman but also her family and it can never be the cause of divorce.

Wrong Empowerment: Women are wrongly empowered.

Nature and evolution made women a caring and lovable being. Having child and nurturing them is her primal responsibility.

This millennial generation is about Individualism. Anyone can live alone independently.

Corporate culture at work gives a sense of empowerment. It's hire and fire methodology has imbibed into the family. When there is a problem in the relationship, instead of solving together they end up in divorce.

Women should be educated to run their family in the best way which in turn the society becomes better. A well-educated women with moral values can raise a child in a very good way than an employed women who sees her child occasionally.

Families are the building blocks of a society. Women are the backbone of a family. Wrong empowerment leads to lesser commitment and indirectly affects the stability of society.

Divorce, feminism and male chauvinism are not the reason for women empowerment and vice versa.

COME LETS SPEAK WOMEN EMPOWERMENT IN A POSITIVE WAY!

It has nothing to do with past, present or future.

Let TIME PAUSE for a moment.

At first place why do we need women empowerment?

Does this did not happen in previous decades? Why sudden need and requirement to give emphasis to this oh so famous term?

I FEEL IT HAS TO DO WITH MIND AND SOUL.

There were times when women were powerful and wanted in family and society and of course she is NOW.

But there are also areas and incidences which show women are being suppressed because of her being a weaker vessel.

Human race saw this and does not want her to be suppressed. It also saw how family and society benefited because of her positive mind.

Taking up responsibilities like child bearing, nurturing and disciplining the child including other family and societal responsibilities has molded her character to be good person. Thus human race feels, this good character soul if empowered will benefit masses (both society and family) At the same time making herself feel wanted, secured leading to happiness.

I FEEL THIS IS THE INTENTION BEHIND WOMEN EMPOWERMENT!

But if the base thinking is pessimistic. I am for sure this term is misused and many men become victims of it.

So any positive cause, action or movement in this world can be misused by a pessimistic thought. BECAUSE OF THIS MISUSE, WE ARE NOT GOING TO ENFORCE POSITIVE THINGS IN THIS WORLD? ARE WE?

In past centuries men had right over a woman and even if the woman had problems in family life, she just suppressed it or suffered it. So the divorce rates were less. In this century woman has the power, she has the freedom to show her opinions, she has the right to take her decisions. I e men and woman are treated equally. And the divorce rates has increased because the woman started reacting. In a family life, both husband and wife should understand each other. Respect each other. And if there is no such rapport, let them leave. If they wish to. It's all up to them. To adjust or to leave. Woman empowerment is not the cause of divorce. But woman empowerment has made divorce possible, where it was necessary.

What about the older generation men who still think they are lords and beat up their wives and ill-treat them. The women still put up with all this nonsense for the sake of their children due to social pressure otherwise the children won't be able to get proposals if the parents separate. Women have taken too much of nonsense in the name of marriage.

Women empowerment should be taken in right spirit and society should not relate every issue in relationship with that. Yes, empowered women can handle the consequences of divorce in better way. This doesn't mean that they want the relationship to fail. Society needs to be more broad-minded and positively accept the empowered women. Both are wheels of family vehicle needs to be equally strong. Actually, the youth now want the marital bond to loosing freedom.

Women empowerment is for making women powerful, giving them the freedom to put forth their ideas and stand up for their rights. This has nothing to do with relationships. The basis of any relationship is love and trust on each other. Where woman gets treated well, there are very few chances of divorce. Yes, some exceptions might be there but I am talking about the major portion. Well, women empowerment is a tool to bring the peace in society back not to break it. I don't know how one can think of it as a cause for divorce. The cause is not outside it is inside in your mind.

To be very frank women empowerment is not a reason for escalating divorce rate in India.

Women Empowerment basically means educating women, making them aware of their rights, raising voice against injustice. Take two different situations.

In 18th, 19th-century women didn't know much about their rights and actions. They got suppressed by men. They were asked to sit back at home and nurture the child. Men were the source of income, women were not allowed to leave home. In the past people had the notion that if the female of the house goes for work then who will take care of the child, who will look after the home. Parents had a selective perception of women being a liability, they used to have an abortion if the get to know that a toddler is a female. In past, it was humanity which died along with the toddler.

Now the time has arrived where Women are getting more and more support from society and government. India ones used to be a patriarchal society but now our India is changing, changing towards betterment. There are many reforms which give a threshold to be more decisive and powerful and come to dominate the world in the times to come:-.

1. Reserving 1/3 of seats in parliament for women under article 40.

2. Form Rashtriya Mahila Kosh to make credit available to women.

3. Article14 - Which gives right to women to stand equal before law.

4. Stopping Polygamy and Bigamy.

5. Mahila Samiridhi Yojna - For women empowerment.

Conclusion.

Divorce happen because of lack of understanding between the couple. Sometimes men can get egoistic because women are earning more than them. Instead of making women empowerment a scapegoat, we should stop harassing each other, live life with serenity, accept the change in the society, make more love, don't break trust, do more of what makes you happy without compromising others happiness, give freedom to your partner, be mature enough to understand what your partner wants from life.

Empowerment is nowhere responsible for divorce in India instead our unreadiness to accept the change is.

Our India stands very low in Gender Parity Index (. 48). If this is improved India Could Boost Its GDP by $. 7trillion by 2025. More than 68 million women can be brought to work.
