Yes, smoking requires to be banned in India on obvious and strict note, as it directly affects smoker's lungs and passively hampers lungs of a non smokers.

Already, there are lot of reasons for air pollutions, don't need more to affect lungs further.

Hi this is Tamil.

I agree with the points. You all are saying about banning cigarettes. But only by banning of cigarettes can't help people those who all are smoking Then they move to other bad habits so spreading awareness, counseling them.

Thank you.

Smoking should be strictly banned as it not only affects the individual's life but also the development of the country. We all know that how injurious is smoking for health. And more than an active smoker it harms to the passive smoker. Just think what happens when a pregnant woman becomes the victim of passive smoking. The infant with her becomes highly vulnerable to diseases even before coming in this world.

Thus when citizens of the country will not be healthy, how can a country be healthy?More than 50% of the population in our country is addicted to smoking. Strong awareness of side effects of smoking is required. Also, government of the country should take the major step to ban smoking completely for bright future of our country.

Let me start with an example of ITC limited.

The 80% of the production of cigarettes by ITC is sold in India while only 20% is exported. Revenue of the company used to be the only source until it diverse into another business.

The profit from this sector was so huge that the company sustained 110 years and employment generation capabilities and farmers in the Gujarat charotar region has been famous for this the golden leaf.

So until you find some alternative to this it would be harmful to economy and industry. Where not only the smoker will be affected but also non-smoker.

Hi friends,

I think tobacco should not be banned. Because even though tobacco banned the addicted person should get it from black market. It affects the bread and butter of farmer who is growing tobacco in its farm. There are lot of people who are earning their livelihood by selling tobacco product, lot of people working in tobacco industry they will be unemployed.

So to banning of tobacco completely is not a right solution we have to find another solution to get people aware of drawback of tobacco.

Supposed future : Government bans cigarette in India. Bangladesh's economy suddenly skyrockets and so does India's black market. Vapor, e-cigarettes take over smoking for the younger generation the end.

Should we ban smoking completely?Who are we to (indirectly) force others on what not to breathe? Especially since most people who do smoke do it in a secluded area away from us, also their productivity in society isn't affected unlike many people have commented below. They have their life in their own hands not ours.

Hi, this is Asish.

Ban on smoking completely can't be justified.

If we project it out right now, we can visualize that smokers will definitely get upto some other way of fulfilling their need or want, citing evidences like Gujarat Liquor Ban, encouraging Black Market.

Not banning is leading to chronic smoking, but every individual is responsible for themselves, even government having responsibility towards public, can't force and violate rights of an individual. It has become the need of masses of smokers.

Hi friends,

According to my opinion smoking shouldn't be banned completely. It's a personal choice. For some 'smoking' is injurious to health and for some 'smoking' is a way to probably relieve stress or not an 'EVIL'. Maybe a person smokes, but works out triple and stays healthy.

Smoking should be banned completely but by not suddenly making a law because addicted person can't face it so, it is very necessary to make a law and banned completely but the law should come in action by advertising before 1or 2 years the law action.

I think smoking should be banned because if we just give awareness about the effects of smoking the people who are addicted to it will not be concerned about the awareness but instead they will try to ignore it. And if we ban smoking it will at least help the beginners get rid of from it. But on the other hand, if we ban smoking totally why the people who are so much addicted to it may try to come crime or do drug deals which will lead to problems in our country and will ruin their life.
