I think, subsidies is must for each and every farmer either they are rich or poor. To being a rich farmer is not a crime. If govt provide subsidies along with proper gideline to farmer. Then the food crisis in India will completely end. Also, it is a right of each and every one to eate food and by the help of agriculture subsidies food will become cheap to every it automatically help to the farmer and every people in India.

Hi Everyone, According to me agricultural subsidy could not be stopped. Approximately 70% of people are depend on agriculture. Farmers in India are very poor they couldn't buy expensive instruments to plough fields, so subsidy is must. But some farmers are very rich they are taking advantage of that so government should make the boundry by which only poor people take advantage of that.

In my opinion agreecultural subsidies should not be stopped. In India most of the farmers condition is not well. The profit from their production is not apparently much. Many time due to excessive rain or dry summer they faced much loss. And then they are unable to buy seeds. If the govt did not help them by providing the money of their new seeds for next season crops, it will be unable to turn back for them. Beside providing subsidies govt should also be concerned in the distribution system of crops from farmer to market. When a farmer produces vegetables, that will passed in many hands before market, the farmer can't directly sell the crops in market, if they could they would profit much, they sell the crops to the local agent with very few profit, then the local agent and through other people the crops finally come into market and then the price is tripple higher than the price farmer got. So if govt can stop this and make a way to directly selling in the market for farmers, then the farmers will be really helpful.

For this, one needs to look into the negative effects of subsidies which are far more than the positive effects. Once received, people become dependent on the subsidies. Subsidies make the beneficiaries lethargic. Hence, subsidies are sometimes termed as sweet poison. Misuse of subsidies for political purpose is known worldwide. Subsidies support one industry at the expense of the other. When a person is given subsidy benefit, it imposes burden on some other person in the country. Malpractices have often been noticed in the administration of subsidies.

In an agricultural economy like India, grant of subsidy play an important role in uplifting this sector. Most of the farmers of our country are small and marginal. Indian farmers being poor are not in a position to buy the expensive agricultural inputs like pumping sets, advanced machinery, technologically improved fertilizers, manures, high yielding seeds, tractors and many other inputs to increase their production and productivity. This in turn calls for the urgency of agricultural subsidy to be provided by the government.

As such I feel that agricultural subsidy in no way should be stopped in India. Govt should work at its best to provide farmers with credit facilities and other input facilities at a subsidized rate to enhance their production and protect the interest of the farmers so that they can get adequate commercial value of their produce. To conclude I would like to say that subsidies should be provided in a way that will protect the interest of the farmers and at the same time keep a check on the corrupt and fraudulent practices prevailing in this sector so that rich farmers and intermediaries do not take dew advantage of this facility granted by the government.

I think subsidies at the moment for Indian farmers is a must. But, again selective subsidies is the need of the hour. The government has to distinguish between rich and poor farmers, with benefits of subsidies reaching the deserving poor farmers. This will serve a two pronged purpose-reducing both inequalities and strain on government finances. However, the long term vision of India should be to make each farmer economically independent and to away with subsidies altogether.

Thanks to everyone for reading.

A simple answer to this question is a big 'NO'. In a country where each day farmer's are committing suicide because of their inability to pay back the loans taken, there is no reason to stop the subsidies, rather, it should be increased. But I feel these days there is a greater need to get rid of the pesticides and fertilizers based farming hence I feel that MORE SUBSIDIES to be given to farmers doing ORGANIC FARMING, the organic produce should have more minimum support price than the pesticides based products.

As we all know India is a agriculture based country. More than 66% of population depends upon agriculture. And farmers are the only people who is taking care of our resources. So that's our duty to provide help by giving subsidies. By doing this government increase their moral and they take more interest in agriculture as its a good source of income for them. And also it directly helps our economy and we are able to keep your resources safe.

Generally, Farmers are poor but we all know that in many States there are rich Farmers who have all the luxuries of life like own bungalows, expensive cars etc. The Subsidy system does not differntiate the rich and poor. For e.g. , Fertiliser subsidy would be enjoyed by all the farmers when the poor needs it the most. If we cannot differentiate at the subsidy level, then we should certainly charge income tax on agricultural income above a certain limit, say Rs. 1, 50, 000/- progressively. This would take care of the anomaly in the system and would also protect the poor farmers.

I think the subsidies which is given to the farmers is should be distinguished well in the poor farmers and rich farmers.

I think there should be tax on the farmers because as per the income tax limits up to 180000/ there is no taxes applied. And as we know the poor Indian farmers unable to cross that limit so it will give advantage to catch rich farmers who shows there BLACK MOONEY in WHITE MONEY so those farmers will be taxable under IT ACTS.

So only with emotionally decisions we can't able to correct decision for that we have to take decision with mind.
