Is Management an Art or a Science?

In my view, that management is an art as well as a science because both are complimentary and mutually supportive. It is a science because it has an organized body of knowledge which contains certain universal truth. It is also an art because it requires certain skills which are the personal qualities possessed the manager.

In my opinion management is both science and art.

Science works on principles and which can be applied universally. As in management we follow the principles like ""one man, one boss" and this is applicable to all the organisations. These principles require observations and experimentation to obtain the certainty in science. Management also require observations and experimentation to get the satisfied work force.

Science establishes cause and effect relationship. Management principles also has a cause and effect relationship. For example good bonding between the employees with their boss at workplace results in good increased productivity and if they do not have good relationship with their boss it will result in bad performance and reduced productivity.

Now coming to management as art.

Every art requires practical knowledge therefore learning of theory is not sufficient. In management also a manager can not deal with difficult situations based on his theory knowledge he must have known how to apply the principles in that situation.

An artist must be creative to get the unique beautiful piece of art. Manager also need that creativity to get the best out of everything and which cam beat the other products in the market. He should always come up with new and creative ideas.

Personal skill is very important for every artist to make them different from others. They have their own way to create things. In management also you should have personal skill to manage the work in your style and make your organisation or business different from others and become the best eventually.

From above points it is clear that management is both the mixture of art and science.

Simply speaking, Science provides the knowledge & art deals with the application of knowledge and skills.

Because management has got two faces like a coin on one side it is an art and on other side it is science. Management has got scientific principles which constitute the elements of science and skills and talent which are attributes of art.

Management is both science as well as arts. Science is that is learnt and arts is something which can be practiced. Science is to know and arts is to do. Management a soft science because its principles are not very rigid. Art refers to the skill to put into action a systematized body of knowledge for the achievement of a given task.

Guys its right management is both art and science. But the part of art is heavy because even if the person know the principles of management which is scientific part but he do not have the art to deal with such principles he can't manage a business. So art is very important.

Management as a science, since it contains universal truth of ideas, applied principles on how to handle employees as a manager in a given organization, using scientific process such psychology towards employee reactions and ways to settle it.

Management is both an art and a science because expert, skill or proficiency, which constitute an art, result from from knowledge and practice which is a product of science.

Management is an art as well as science reasons being.

ART.

1. How a human responds to particular circumstance is an art an intuitive thing.

2. Managers have succeeded well across the globe who have thought out of the box which is clearly an art.

3. Getting things done by others (delegation) is an artistic skill and varies from person to person.

SCIENCE.

1. All firms across the world follow set of predefined theories of management which is in accordance with science.

2. Certain actions have particular outcome whatever the case may be.

3. Management when viewed as a science looks deceiving cos exact results cannot be predicted but actually Predictions cannot be accurate as mgmt. Involves human behavior & response which can vary enormously so it falls under social sciences.

Management is an art of getting things done through others. This knows how requires creative power and skill in the performance.

Management is called an art due to the following reasons.

- Management involves creativity.
- Management personnel has skill in performance.

It is a science.

- It explains about truth cause and effect relationship.
- It has the following features.
- It is a systematized by of knowledge.
- It uses scientific methods to observe.
- The principles drawn are universally applicable to the similar situation.

That's why the management is both an art or a science.
