This is a hotly debated topic.

In my view capital punishment should be abolished. Life is given by god. He alone has the right to take it rather capital punishment is inhuman and shows cruelty. And it is a fact too that inhumanity cannot be encountered with inhumanity.

Every sinner has a future and every saint has a past. CP should be replaced by life imprisonment. If the conditions are worse then they should be tortured that the guilty himself pleads for death sentence.

Hi dears, I want to share a point about CP.

In my point of view CP shouldn't be banned specially in rape case. At first our government should make a sticks low for rapist, if it clears that he is rapist. On that time our law and order punished him.

Hi, according to me capital punishment should be banned because people who commit inhuman crimes like rapes and acid attacks should not directly be hanged but should be first tortured to such an extent that they realize what would that girl had feet when she had undergone such a treatment.

After this inhuman behaviour they should be left in a place where no one can meet them place where they can't even get the sunlight and rarely a square meal per day. As we all know that a executioner who gives one death without much fear is not as inhuman as one makes one die every minute and second.

In the Andaman and Nicobar Islands the prisoners are subjected to solitary confinement inside the cellular jails built specially built for that purpose and have no attachment to the outer world. Therefore to conclude I would like to say that capital punishment should be banned and criminals should realize their mistakes before taking their ultimate rest.

According to me capital punishment is must in our country because the person who rapes who murder are the person who don't follow the fundamental.

Rights of our country if we give them severe punishment then they will free after some years and they try to take the revenge which leads against rape and murder and also terrorist who get caught in our country. If our country don't give them capital punishment then they will thought easy. So as per my opinion capital punishment must be there in our country.

Hi friends.

I think capital punishment should be allowed because if someone has taken 100 people's lives so we can go to improve that person. It will be injustice to those 100 people. By giving an chance to that person we will come in category of criminals.

I believe capital punishment should not be banned. And here is the reason why I am saying this.

1. A terrorist or some psychopath kills hundreds of people. And victim who dies is definitely someone's father, mother, brother or son and someone must be waiting for them at home. If the criminal lives then the family members of the victim will never be at peace.

2. Not giving them the punishment they deserve will encourage others to be a criminal.

3. Government will have to spend billions of rupees for their safety just like in the case of kasab.

4. The jails in India will be populated.

I have gone through with all given comments but somewhere we are losing our Faith from the heart of the people, one sincere question to all participants who are here my dear young friends how long are we going to minimize our government mistakes?

If law and legislation system is there as you people have mentioned capital punishment shouldn't be banned then why government of India is not accounting the killers of rajiv Gandhi? Aren't those deserve for capital punishment? They are killers they killed our former prime minister they why capital punishment isn't for them?

This has been quite a controversial and hot debate since the last couple of years. I have went through everyone's opinions here and would like to thank everyone for your perspectives and speaking your mind!

In my opinion, capital punishment or death penalty should be banned for any form of crimes. Well, my opinion might seem very stupid and nonsensical to many people. But the ground reality here is that capital punishments and any form of death penalties doesn't deter crimes from happening. I myself vehemently supported capital punishments until just one year back, since I was of the opinion that killing or hanging a criminal would prevent other criminals from committing the same crime and that it would safeguard our society. It is widely considered that imposing death penalties on criminals would lessen crimes. Yet, that's not what has been occurring.

The more aggressively a nation applies capital punishment, the more the crime rate increases. There's no proof in this world that capital punishments has deterred crimes in any way. Crime is a vicious cycle which only perpetuates if we use violence in dealing with violence. An eye for an eye makes the world go blind! Take for example the countries which practise the imposing of capital punishments- Saudi Arabia, Iran, Iraq, China, all the middle east nations except Israel, some underdeveloped nations in Africa, Pakistan, Bangladesh, United States and our very own India.

Do you see something common here? In these very nations where capital punishment is carried out, the crime rates are the highest. Whereas the rest of the world including Europe where it's banned, the crime rates are negligible.

I think life imprisonment without parole is the best form of punishment a criminal could ever get. The criminal will always one day or the other in his life repent the horrendous deed he did within the poor solitary confinements of his prison. And most importantly, age shouldn't be a deciding factor in this matter. Even a juvenile of 16-18 years should be imposed this punishment.

Capital punishments allow the real convicts to go scot free just because he is a juvenile and the ones who aren't that guilty enough or even innocent gets hanged. This misappropriation will go away once capital punishment gets banned and life imprisonment without any restrictions on age of the criminal is imposed. In many cases, casteism, race and poverty comes to the forefront when a person is to be hanged. The wealthy and the person who could afford the best lawyers is treated in a better way By the judiciary and the one who is from a backward race and poor gets biased treatment and consequently gets hanged.

Terrorists are one group who should be tortured mercilessly from time to time during their solitary life imprisonments. The same goes for rapists. Believe me friends, death sentence does nothing to the criminal which a life imprisonment without parole does. It means endless tortures every day of their life until death. It also allows room for guilt and conscience, where they couldn't do anything apart from repenting every day of their lives but without mercy from anyone.

Crime rates have consequently decreased in nations where the death penalty has been abolished. Whereas in countries where it's practised, all forms of crimes including murder and rapes are coming up day after day. Researches and studies have proved that capital punishment has never been successful to deter and prevent any forms of crime to happen.

Lastly, capital punishment is a hugely expensive business which involves plentiful of funds due to the legal proceedings and lawyer fees. All these money should instead be used for the benefits and assistance of the murdered victim's family by providing them funds and counselling. They are the ones who are ones who suffer the aftermath of the crime the most all through their lives.

Killing the convict doesn't have the power to offer them any peace of mind, even if we think that it does. It's a lose which they carry for the rest of their lives. It should be the duty of the state to provide them with any assistance they need. Crimes can never be cured with crimes, but by treating the grass root problems of the country which is corruption at all levels, poverty and most importantly the social evils lingering everywhere like casteism.

I am sure my opinions won't be taken positively by a majority, but I posted what I opine is true. Thanks!

In my opinion capital punishment is necessary, CP (Capital Punishment) create a fair in mind of peoples it will help to reduce the crimes.

Some people say. Only God has a right to take one's life, Any other have the same right?

But all human has equal right to live here. One kill other, the other person right to life is violated so what we can do?

The victim has a right to get Justice?

He kills ones more too.

Then what we can do?

I think CP is the best punishment for it.
