Co-operatives are autonomous associations, set up by persons for mutual economic, social, and cultural reasons.

Non-profit associations, such as NGO's work for people welfare, and raise up causes like, poverty, child labor etc.

Many other co-operatives which are set up for profit-making purposes, be it autonomous investment firms, or consultancies, render services to the people.

In my opinion in today's nearly self sustained world, where the era of globalization is maturing everyday, co-operatives have become a part and parcel of this world thus, their relevance is proved.

Hello Friends,

I am Dr. Narayan and I would like to initiate the Group Discussion.

Our topic is Are co-operatives relevant in today's globalised environment?

In my opinion co- operatives are still relevant in today's globalised environment.

What are co- operatives ? What is there purpose !

A co-operative is where a number of individuals or businesses work together to achieve a common purpose. They are normally formed so individuals and small businesses can benefit from being part of a larger group.

Many co-operatives work for the benefit of local people.

Their are Profit and not for profit co- operatives, These co-operatives are relevant as long as they are achieving their common purpose of the local people and the owners feel they are providing an important service to the community. "Even global is made of local as the ocean is made of the waves".
