The temperature in the Thermosphere is gradually increasing, where after the thermosphere (where ionosphere is also located) the Temperature rises very rapidly (nearly a constant temperature 1500 degrees Celsius).

The question states after which layer temperature rise is rapid and not from which layer, temp. Decreases in stratosphere and from ionosphere it increases. So, appropriate answer. Should be stratosphere after which temperature rises.
