In the southern hemisphere, the day with the shortest time between sunrise and sunset is the day of the June (winter) solstice, which falls on or near the 21st of June, and the day with the longest time between sunrise and sunset is the day of the December (summer) solstice, which falls on or near the 21st of December.

The shortest day and the longest night of the year in the northern hemisphere occur during winter solstice which is usually observed on the 22nd of December. This is also the day of the longest day and the shortest night in the southern hemisphere.

The longest day in Northern hemisphere is June 21. It means that the shortest day in Southern Hemisphere is June 21 only.
