June Solstice: Longest and Shortest Day of the Year. The June solstice is the Summer Solstice in the Northern Hemisphere and the Winter Solstice the Southern Hemisphere. The date varies between June 20 and June 22, depending on the year, and which time zone you are in.

Sun apparently makes a sign curve on the equator of the Earth due to the tilt of its axis. Therefore, reverse season (Summer and Winter) are experienced in northern and southern hemispheres. On December, 22 the appears right on the Tropic of Capricorn, so the day is longest on this date (shortest night) in the Southern hemisphere and longest night and shortest day in Northern hemisphere.

Since, India is in the northern hemisphere that's why 21st June is the longest day but in southern hemisphere 22 December is the longest day. So, the given answer is correct.
